Or, you can spend six intermission action points to pray to the Soul Cannon and disable the automatic selection outright, which is convenient. In Fuga 2, the Soul Cannon will automatically select a child to be harvested if the tank HP drops below a certain benchmark, and your only options are to either defeat the boss in a set number of turns or use the Managarm, an alternate weapon that merely knocks out of the children instead of killing them outright. In Fuga 1, the Soul Cannon was an optional resource to use for overcoming a difficult boss fight: When the tank HP drops below half, you can choose to instantly vaporize the boss by sacrificing one of the children to the Soul Cannon. Story is somewhat like the original game in terms of the morality and hardships of war, while the gameplay mechanics have been expanded somewhat while still maintaining the core loop of switching child soldiers in battle, delaying enemy attacks with machine gun/grenade launcher/cannon match-ups while raising affinity, upgrading the giant tank and doing farming chores and resource expeditions during intermissions. It's a fun JRPG experience that serves as a solid follow-up to the iconic Fuga: Melodies of Steel.
